![]() Journal of Band Research: A Repertoire Anthology (1984-1989) This book is a must for the serious conductor of wind music. Author: Dr. Terry Austin, Editors: Dr. John Locke and Dr. William Moody. For a half century, The Journal of Band Research has been at the forefront of our understanding of wind band repertoire, attracting some of the most important wind band composers and conductors to write about the great works of the wind band canon. This book is a compilation of many of the great articles that have been published over the past 50 years. From 1964, Herbert W. Fred discusses Percy Grainger's Music for Wind Band and Vincent Persichetti reflects on his own Symphony No. 6 for Band. From 1971, David Whitwell opens the door into "The Enigma of Copland s Emblems." And in 1973, Karel Husa writes "Apotheosis of the Earth: Some Thoughts." Other articles include "Thematic Derivations in the Holst First Suite in E-Flat" by Charles Gallagher (1965), "Hammersmith and the Two Worlds of Gustav Holst" by Robert Cantrick (1977), and "Analysis: Winds of Nagual by Michael Colgrass" by James Mathes (1987). All told, the 29 articles in this anthology paint a remarkable picture of the wind band world at its best and provide remarkable insights into some of the timeless masterpieces of the wind band repertoire. You can purchase the book from GIA Publications or Amazon. | ![]() The Journal of Band Research (JBR) is the premiere scholarly publication devoted to band music, band history, and band methodology. ![]() ABA/CBDNA Reprint Project The purpose of the Reprint Project is to convince a music publisher to issue a reprint of an out-of-print composition. The score (PDF ) and audio recording (MP3) of the out-of-print work will be reviewed by an eleven-person joint Committee of ABA/CBDNA, and if the composition is found to be a significant contribution to the repertory of the concert band/wind ensemble by a three-fourths majority of the Committee, an effort will be made to have it reprinted by a reputable music publisher. The ABA/CBDNA Reprint Project is only open to ABA and/or CBDNA members. Non-members of both associations who wish to have a composition considered must seek sponsorship from an ABA or CBDNA member. To submit a composition for consideration (pdf of the score and mp3 file), email the project chair, Tim Rhea. A list of compositions submitted for consideration by the Reprint Committee may be obtained by contacting the project chair, Tim Rhea. The success of this project depends upon a commitment of ABA/CBDNA members and other band conductors throughout the world to purchase the reprinted compositions for their own band music libraries. | Work of the Educational Projects Committee Composer Diversity Resource Project: A List of Resources Contributed by Terry Austin, Christopher Chapman, Mark Heidel, Dennis Johnson, Andy Mast, and Madeline Womack Work of the School Bands Task Force Committee ABA Electronics Position Paper Contributed by Roy Holder (chair), School Bands Task Force Committee, 2019.
