A Message from the President

Posted on June 11, 2017 by American Bandmasters AssociationJune 11, 2017

Dear ABA Members and visitors to our website:

The American Bandmasters Association represents a history of tradition and service to our profession. As we look to our founder, Edwin Franko Goldman, we continue to refine our mission of promoting the concert band and its repertoire.

The membership of our association represents the outstanding conductors, composers, and music industry leaders associated with the wind band. In addition to recognizing exceptional musicians through invitational membership into the association, we can collectively pool the resources associated with these master conductors and composers through projects that will benefit all in our profession.

Since my induction into the ABA in 1988, I have been impressed with the tremendous progress made in maintaining great traditions while introducing new ideas and refining the total structure of our purpose and goals. Each year the improvements made are largely due to the leadership component of our organization. Next year it is my goal to capitalize on the momentum created by my predecessors and add to the maturation and significance of the ABA contribution to the band world.

The American Bandmasters Association is a special community, serving to connect its members both professionally and socially. I am privileged not only to serve as the current President, but also simply to be a member.

We welcome you to explore our website that details our history, membership, and various musical projects.

Musically yours,

Gary E. Smith
President, The American Bandmasters Association
