Martin Mailman

Martin Mailman was born in New York City on June 30, 1932.  He received his B.M., M.M., and Ph.D. from the Eastman School of Music where he studied composition with Louis Mennini, Wayne Barlow, Bernard Rogers, and Howard Hanson.  Dr. Mailman is the recipient of many awards and commissions including the Edward Benjamin Award, prizes from the Birmingham Arts Festival, Willamette University, and the Walla Walla Symphony, an NEA grant, the Queen Marie-Jose Prize, the Shelton Excellence in Teaching Award, the Annual ASCAP Award, the ABA/Ostwald award, the NBA/NABIM Award.

He has been a guest conductor, composer, lecturer and clinician at numerous international, national, regional and state meetings as well as universities, high schools and festivals.

He has over ninety compositions to his credit, involving genres such as chamber music, band, choral, orchestra, film scores, television music and opera.  Some of his other works for band include Geometrics for Band, Op. 22; Exaltations, Op. 67; and For precious friends hid in death's dateless night, Op. 80.
